Afrocentric Talks: 2025’s Letter to 3050

Afrofuturism.

What is it? In my own words, Afrofuturism is an act of resistance to the confines of societal expectations placed on black people. It includes a future where black folks are depicted as rich, successful, happy, and worthy of giving and receiving love without it being a threat to the made up concept of “inferiority” by our white counterparts. It is a combination of black figures being portrayed as powerful, confident beings while engaging in innovative topics of science-fiction while acting as trendsetters, and giving us a voice to talk about abstract topics that does not solely revolve around our past and traumas. Afrofuturism is a term to gives me hope for our black future.

By 3050.

By 3050, black beings have established a civilization that fully embodies Afrofuturism. They are breaking the boundaries of the way they look in fashion, hair, makeup, jewelry, etc. They are and WILL be present and thriving in our future. They WILL be out creatives, our innovators, our leaders, trendsetters (as we have always been), and inventors. In 2025, they pretended to forget our impact and even gaslighted people of color about what they have contributed to our world and specifically America.

We are no longer suffering from the traumas of our history—We beat racism, oppression, and have closed the gap that was made to hold us back forever. “Forever” has ended and a new forever is written. Don't you love that term “aliens” when they describe immigrants, people of color, and beings we are just uneducated about? I mean, is it a coincidence that these big-eyed, non-human beings are used to describe non-white people who want to establish a life in a new country? This makes me believe we were actually the real “aliens” that people were afraid of all along. Too smart, too ahead of their time in aspects of pop culture, technology, and ways of life. We were only seen as aliens because they wanted to downplay our impact. We are a threat to them. We mind as well have came down in a UFO and shot them with laser beams….

It is the year 3050. We took over. We did shoot them with the laser beams, but they weren’t actual weapons. It was just time to move on from our society from 2025. WE have always known that since we came here, involuntarily, chained up on a boat. Their plans from Project 2025 failed. The agenda of erasing us— eugenics, poverty until death and depression, destruction of our self worth, and physical removal— it never worked. They didn’t realize we were NEVER going to be eliminated. We ARE the real aliens, Sci-fi is us now. They want to be like us in the movies, the music, the red carpet, and political spaces. We are confident to lead and inspire.

The funny truth is we have always been impactful. Black people in 3050, remembered who we’ve always been. We have been here always and forever.
